Secondments and training

Researching abroad and learning from the best field experts

Fellows will spend from one month to up to one year conducting research in an institution from a different sector, in Spain or abroad. And will receive training aimed at boosting their networking opportunities and expand their interdisciplinary knowledge.

Training

AECC Talent will provide a comprehensive training programme to its fellows with yearly sessions that will range from specific courses and seminars on research skills to non-research oriented transferable skills, innovation and leadership courses provided by experts in the corresponding fields.

Researchers will learn how to open access to their publications, manage and share their research data, and prepare a Data Management Plan. Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) implies to align research with the values, needs and expectations of society. This training, taught by the FECYT, will encompass workshops on Open Science, gender balance and research career as well as inform about different funding opportunities at Spanish and European level.

This training will include a 2 full-day scientific communication workshops, with science communication experts from SCIENSEED showing how to make science understandable and including practical sessions in which AECC Talent fellows will apply the novel concepts and communication tools to their own projects. In addition, the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, will complement these workshops with a specific session on patient engagement in cancer research.

The Lab Leadership workshop provided by EMBO Solutions GmbH (a non-profit daughter company of EMBO) will help AECC Talent fellows to define how they want to lead and manage their lines of research and research group, to improve both the quality and quantity of their research outputs and the performance and well-being of staff and teams by providing them with tools for the management of research, groups and teams, good communication, healthy resolution of conflict and management of workloads and responsibilities.

Additionally, the Knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship training led by ELZABURU will bridge the gap between basic science and applied cancer research with sessions on intellectual property rights (IPR), how to detect patentable results, patent search, introduction to patent writing, project management, grant writing, commercialisation, entrepreneurship and leadership.

Partners

Secondments

In addition to enjoying an excellent research environment and working conditions AECC Talent fellows will be able to carry out international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary secondments, that may range from one month to one year, through which they will boost their networking opportunities and expand their interdisciplinarity.

AECC Talent fellows will indicate their proposed secondment plan when submitting their applications but may indicate additional secondments of interest during the lifetime of their fellowship, as their research develops. Fellows are encouraged to find and propose their own secondment destinations (including those supporting partners listed below or new ones) to carry out short visits to entities that may help them to successfully carry out their projects. These plans will have to be approved by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer and both the hosting and secondment institutions.
