AECC Talent Training Session 2026 in Valencia

From 23 to 26 March, we held the AECC Talent Training Session 2026 in Valencia, bringing together postdoctoral researchers from the AECC Talent programme. With this initiative, we strengthen research careers in oncology and support high‑quality cancer research in Spain.

During four days of intensive training, we welcomed fellows from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts. The AECC Talent Training Session focused on key skills that support long‑term research careers. These sessions addressed career planning, Open Science practices, scientific communication and we also worked on integrating the gender perspective in research and improving patient involvement. All these areas help researchers produce work that is rigorous, transparent, and socially responsible and also respond to current European and international research standards.

We held the 2026 training session at IIS La Fe, one of Spain’s accredited Centres of Research Excellence in collaboration with the Association in Valencia. This setting encouraged peer learning and professional exchange among participants. Bringing researchers together in person helped strengthen connections and foster future sinergies.

One of the most valuable elements of the AECC Talent Training Session was the participation of Patient Advocates. They shared their experiences and perspectives with the fellows and their contribution reminded us of the importance of including patients’ voices throughout the research process. These sessions helped researchers better understand the real‑world impact of their work and also reinforced the shared goal of improving outcomes and quality of life for people affected by cancer.

The AECC Talent postdoctoral programme is co‑funded by the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Actions COFUND framework. Through this programme, we attract and retain research talent in Spain offering competitive conditions and access to leading research environments. Participation in the programme is limited to 13 accredited Centres of Research Excellence, ensuring high scientific standards.

Through initiatives such as the AECC Talent Training Session, we continue to support highly qualified researchers while promoting excellence, innovation, and meaningful social impact in cancer research across Spain.
